Are you a HIGH Achieving Parent

Posted on June 6, 2011 12:00:00am, by Gerrianne Clare

If you are like most high achievers, you like the title? You set the bar high and pride yourself on doing whatever it takes to accomplish your goals.
You have the education, dedication and motivation to get the job done well.

As a high achiever you have probably gone to university and received specialized training to be good at your craft.
You have a strong work ethic and manage clients, patients, employees or contractors in the course of your work. Your work life consists of phrases such as contracts, standards, rules of engagement, return on investment, cost benefit analysis, projections, goals etc.
There is a knowingness and confidence that comes with the education and experience you bring to your job.

With all of this structure and control in your life do you find it challenging to put the same kind of tenacity into parenting your kids?

Setting Boundaries and Agreements - A Necessary Evil

Posted on December 13, 2010 12:00:00am, by Gerrianne Clare

Over the years I have read alot about the importance of setting boundaries in life.

What does that really mean?

Setting boundaries is similar to defining expectations or agreements in a relationship.

For me, there are a multitude of areas where I want to set clearer boundaries in my life.

What about you?

Adult Children - Creating the Connection you Want

Posted on September 14, 2010 12:00:00am, by Gerrianne Clare

It is amazing how many people have commented lately about the challenges they are having in their relationships with their adult children.

The story sounds familiar.

Something happened in the relationship and now there is a disconnection that is eating away at the heart of the parent. (and if the truth be told, at the heart of the adult child as well)

Many times the parent is unsure of what went wrong? Other times, they know what happened BUT they do not know how to make amends in a meaningful way.

Regardless of whether the child is 5 or 45, the bond between parents and child exists. When the child becomes an adult and moves on in their lives, the day to day experiences are gone, but the desire for some form of connection continues.  This is especially true if there are grandchildren involved.

Is your family on the RIGHT TRACK?

Posted on August 31, 2010 12:00:00am, by Gerrianne Clare

A recent survey of parents indicated that the top three challenges they face in raising their kids (regardless of age) are:

  1. Knowing what to do when their kids challenge their authority
  2. How to handle the sibling rivalry and fighting that goes on in the home
  3. How to motivate their kids without overstressing them
If you are like most parents, you want to raise happy well adjusted responsible kids, but the hard part is figuring out how to achieve this goal without going crazy in the process.

Parenting - A Journey into Your Soul - The early years

Posted on July 20, 2010 12:00:00am, by Gerrianne Clare

As I mentioned in my last blog when our son was born, I was totally in love. I found myself wanting to hold him and cuddle him all day long. I noticed I became a little possessive if friends or extended family wanted to hold him. I got to the point where I became very identified with him.   By this I mean, all of his achievements – rolling over, smiling, walking, talking and his behavior were a reflection of me and my abilities as a mother.

I wanted to know everything there was to know about being a “good” mom and I wanted to do everything RIGHT.

Parenting - A Journey into Your Soul

Posted on July 12, 2010 12:00:00am, by Gerrianne Clare

There is nothing like parenting to make you look at yourself and see how you want to be a better person.

At least that is what happened for me along my road of parenting my three children. Over the next while in my blogs I am going to share some of my journey into parenting – the joys, the sorrows, the triumphs and the defeats. I write this with the hope that you will find some solace in knowing you are not alone in your thoughts, fears and anxieties about parenting “the right way”.

FYI in my humble opinion – there is no RIGHT WAY or wrong way of parenting there is only YOUR WAY.

To begin, the biggest gift that parenting has given me is humbleness. Nothing like getting angry and frustrated with my kids to make me realize that all of those parents I judged in the past for yelling at their kids at the mall had really just lost it.

Parent your Teens with Confidence - Get your FREE WEBINAR

Posted on July 8, 2010 12:00:00am, by Gerrianne Clare

Are you ready to parent your teens with confidence?

Over my personal as well as professional life I have been on a quest to be a better parent.  From the birth of our son some 30 years ago to the tumultuous teen years of our youngest daughter, there have been many bumps on my parenting journey.  I have studied probably every parenting course known to man, I studied human growth and development throughout my nursing education and career, and I have not only parented my own children but have supported hundreds of parents in being the best that they can be.  In addition to all of this, I have had my own journey into myself and how to be the best person I could be.  Waking up to what I can do to change how I react to my teenagers behavior has been an amazing part of my life's journey.  All of this education, and life experience have been the fuel that has sparked the "Parent your Teens with Confidence" online program.  Check out my website http://www.destressrevolution.com/yourteens     to receive your free "Parent your Teens with Confidence" webinar.  This Free one hour webinar is designed to give you some ideas about how you can parent your teens differently yet effectively.

Parent Your Teens With Confidence

Posted on June 10, 2010 12:00:00am, by Gerrianne Clare

If you are like most parents you want to guide your children into being happy, well adjusted, responsible adults.

The challenge is you are overwhelmed and frustrated with their acting our behavior, they don’t listen to you anymore and you don’t know how to let things go and let them grow.

They don’t come with a rule book.

There is a way to meet your goals of being an effective, clear parent and not feel tortured on the inside by the decisions you make and the expectations that you have.
